While training as a counsellor, I volunteered with survivors of sexual abuse at Safe Space in Dunfermline, Fife, and with people who suffered from substance misuse at the Drug & Alcohol Project (DAPL) in Kirkcaldy, Fife. During this time, I realised just how important it was for people to make progress in groups as well as individually. A realisation that has only grown over the years. As a result, I’m starting Mental Health Support Groups and Online Events.
So many people suffer in silence. They push down their issues until they’re all-consuming, instead of dealing with them head on. Why? Because society tells us to. But we are all the same. Perhaps not in experience, but in cause and consequence. Mental health support groups and online events are the perfect opportunity for individuals to realise that they are not alone.
Through various mind and body exercises synced to the breath, they can gain a better understanding of themselves - and what made them the person they are today - in a safe space with like minded, understanding people. A support system. A community. These support groups and online events will help us all build healthy attachments with each other, to build trust, confidence, boundaries, to connect to the body and heart and, most importantly, to become the best versions of ourselves.
